AgeLab Research Scientist Bryan Reimer is interviewed for an EE Times story about the introduction of driver monitoring systems into vehicles. Dr. Reimer comments:
“Humans are irrational. Just as automatic transmission became the tipping point that allowed a driver to do texting and driving at the same time [it’s hard to text when you have to shift], humans will always use the newly found freedom for doing something else [other than driving] ... Simply telling human drivers not to do certain things — like no emails or texting while driving — wouldn’t help. Because they wouldn’t listen.”
