A recent article by the BBC on the increasing complexities of using in-vehicle technologies featured work discussed by AgeLab research scientist Bruce Mehler at the Connected Car Expo. This research on driver workload and distraction, which draws on multiple studies conducted in the MIT AgeLab’s instrumented on-road vehicles, has brought new insight to how drivers interact with in-vehicle technologies, as well as the implications for driver safety and the future of navigation and entertainment systems' design.

AgeLab forms consortium with DENSO and automotive industry leaders

MIT AgeLab, DENSO Toughstone Evaluations, Honda, Subaru and Jaguar Land Rover have formed a consortium, Advanced Human Factors Evaluator for Automotive Distraction (AHEAD), to study driver distraction.

The consortium will further AgeLab work to holistically and objectively measure driver attentional demand and distraction due to in-vehicle technologies.

By forming a consortium with automotive industry leaders, AgeLab hopes to advance the state of practice for evaluating driver workload.
