Human Factors Considerations in the Development of Driverless Cars & Advanced Crash Avoidance Technologies

Fri, 11/21/2014

Through his talk at Automotive Tech.AD 2014, Dr. Reimer addressed human factors issues associated with partially automated driving (shared control) and the challenges these systems place on human attentional capabilities. He discussed some of the benefits and risks involved in current trends towards autonomous driving, unanticipated consequences, and how social challenges could impact successful deployment. He presented case studies from aviation that may offer a perspective of issues to come as more automation encroaches on the driving task.
