Financial Planning in the Shadow of Dementia

The MIT AgeLab and Transamerica jointly hosted a symposium, Financial Planning in the Shadow of Dementia, exploring the financial challenges facing people with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. The event, held at MIT's Kresge Auditorium, brought together academic experts, physicians, NGOs, leaders in financial services, and more.

Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia. It afflicts 50.2 million adults today, and far more experience the disease's heavy financial toll. The symposium served as a call to action to help families plan and proactively take the necessary steps to protect themselves against potential financial crisis and fraud. "The devastating effects of Alzheimer's disease impact not only the financial security of families, but their very well-being as caregivers and, in many cases, employees," said AgeLab director Joe Coughlin.

AgeLab and Transamerica released The Advisor’s Guide to Financial Planning in the Shadow of Dementia and it can be downloaded here

The symposium received media coverage from Forbes, USA Today, Alzheimer’s News Today, and Financial Advisor IQ
