Coughlin Discusses the Importance of Livability in Retirement Living on MarketWatch

Thu, 04/30/2015

In a recent article on WSJ MarketWatch, AgeLab Director Joe Coughlin writes on the role of livability on quality aging and retirement. Like real estate, Coughlin asserts that quality of life in retirement may be about "location, location, location!” Communities that provide seamless transportation, social services, adequate housing, and healthcare, as well as easy access to an intensity and density of activities may be critical to living well in older age. As a result, planning where to live, what one plans to do, and how to manage transportation needs are as important to quality living in retirement as financial security. Coughlin highlights AARP’s new Livability Index tool as one way to investigate the age-readiness of any community.
