Bryan Reimer Interviewed for StateScoop Article on "Major Tests" for Self-Driving Cars

A story on technology and policy news website StateScoop features comments from AgeLab Research Scientist Dr. Bryan Reimer on the hurdles facing the implementation of fully autonomous vehicles.

In the mind of the public, self-driving vehicles are coming soon to America’s roadways. Manufacturers, researchers and policy-makers, however, have a few speed bumps ahead before the cars are driving around en masse. 

"From a technological perspective, we’re not there yet," said Bryan Reimer, Research Scientist at the MIT AgeLab and associate director of MIT's New England University Transportation Center. "How capable are those vehicles of providing ubiquitous autonomous driving? I think that's an open question."

When will it all be ready for everyday use? It's a question of standards, Reimer said. "We hold robots to a higher body."
