On January 18, 2017, Chaiwoo Lee, PhD, gave a talk for Boston Bridge at the MIT Sloan School of Business. Boston Bridge, which partners with the MIT AgeLab, is a professional association that provides development and mentorship for emerging leaders in the field of aging. Dr. Lee presented results from the AgeLab caregiver study, which followed 30 family caregivers for twelve weeks in order to understand the caregiver experience. The study employed phone interviews and daily and weekly surveys to accumulate data and build profiles on the caregivers' lives. As our society ages, the number of family caregivers will only continue to grow. Those involved in the aging community, including AgeLab and Boston Bridge, will be invested in understanding caregiver experiences and how to assist them with the challenges they face. This research provides a window into caregivers’ experiences to identify their daily routines, their well-being, their challenges, and their resources; this work helps to highlight some of the needs that families, service organizations and businesses might address in order to support caregivers better. This AgeLab caregiver study was funded by CVS/Caremark.
