On September 18 at the Harvard Medical School in Boston, AgeLab researchers Samantha Brady and Dana Ellis participated in a workshop for second year Harvard medical students, led by Dr. Andrea Schwartz, on working with older adult patients in clinical settings
As one piece of the workshop, Brady and Ellis conducted an exercise on empathy using AGNES, the Age Gain Now Empathy System suit. Coupled with a patient panel later in the day, the goal of the exercise was to help students better understand the physical challenges that older adults may face and to spur thinking about ways in which clinical or other experiences might designed or facilitated with older adults in mind.
As part of the interactive exercise, students experienced different components of the AGNES suit and attempted to perform a variety of everyday tasks.
To end the session, students brainstormed ways in which the experience could be applied in clinical settings.
